Michael Hoffman, whatIf? co-founder and principal, was invited to give a seminar on the Canadian Energy Systems Simulator (CanESS) to the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo, organized by Keith Hipel, in December 2009. The seminar marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration between whatIf? and the University in which Waterloo researchers will both access and contribute to the model for various studies. A Master's candidate has already identified CanESS as a useful tool to explore energy options for Ontario and has started using the model. Such collaboration contributes to whatIf?'s goal of making CanESS accessible to all stakeholders with an interest in examining energy futures for Canada.

The CanESS energy model, built on the whatIf? modeling platform, represents the energy supply and demand sectors from the bottom up to provide an integrated outlook of possible future scenarios for the Canadian energy system (click here for further information about CanESS).
